Outrage Over Message to ICE Agents: “Give it to them with everything”

Former Border Patrol General Commander Greg Bovino sparked controversy after posting a message supporting ICE agents at Delaney Hall in New Jersey, further fueling debates over detainee treatment and federal response to protests. His most contentious remarks called to "make life impossible" for protestors during operations, which critics interpreted as encouraging harsher tactics.

Former Border Patrol General Commander Greg Bovino sparked controversy after publishing a message of direct support for ICE agents deployed at Delaney Hall, in New Jersey. His post further ignited the debate over the treatment of detainees, the use of force, and the federal response to protests.

The phrase that provoked the most outrage was his call to “make life impossible for them” and to keep “living the moment” during operations. Bovino assured that the world is watching what happens at the facility and that agents have the backing of various security teams.

The message circulated as protests outside Delaney Hall, a private detention center operated by a for-profit company, intensified. Tensions grew after access was denied to New Jersey Governor Mikie Sherrill, who sought to inspect the facility.

What Did Bovino Say and Why Was It So Controversial?

Bovino posted a message in support of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents operating at Delaney Hall. In his post, he told them to stand firm and that the world was watching them. He also stated that he and other teams were “shoulder to shoulder” with them.

The tone of his words was interpreted by many critics as an invitation to harden the response against protesters and detainees. The message was not limited to expressing solidarity. It also sounded like a justification for operational pressure at a facility already surrounded by allegations of abuse.

“ICE agents at Delaney, do not give up. The entire world is watching you and supports your efforts to hold the line,” Bovino wrote on his X account. He then added that various operational groups supported them. The text further fueled the controversy.

What Is Happening at Delaney Hall?

Demonstrations outside Delaney Hall intensified after access was denied to Governor Mikie Sherrill. The governor demanded an inspection of the facility following allegations of mistreatment of detainees. She also pushed for actions to conduct a health review and possible closure.

The facility has been questioned for its lack of transparency. Sherrill wrote that Delaney Hall is a private facility, operated by a for-profit company, and functions with “zero transparency.” Her statement summarized one of the main criticisms against the place.

Protests have also expanded due to the constant presence of federal agents. Civil organizations and demonstrators have maintained pressure outside the facility. The atmosphere became even more tense when allegations of excessive use of force began to circulate.
