Former Attorney General Pam Bondi faced congressional lawmakers to address the controversial disclosure of Epstein files. During the closed-door interview, Bondi defended the transparency of her tenure, but noted that her successor, Todd Blanche, was largely in charge of the task.

Democrats harshly criticized the appearance, arguing that Bondi attempted to evade responsibility. Representative Robert Garcia stated that Bondi attempted to “blame interim Attorney General Todd Blanche.” Additionally, they accused the former official of failing to provide substantive answers about President Donald Trump’s knowledge of Epstein’s crimes.

Bondi refuted the accusations through social media. On X, the former attorney general wrote: “I praised the work interim Attorney General Blanche did managing this herculean task. I said his ethics are impeccable and that he is an incredible attorney general.” Republicans on the oversight panel backed her version of events.

Why Do Democrats Accuse Bondi of Evasion?

Democratic lawmakers on the House Oversight Committee insisted that Bondi obstructed their questions about the investigation. They noted that Harmeet Dhillon, a Department of Justice (DOJ) official accompanying Bondi, prevented her from answering questions on multiple occasions.

When specifically questioned about whether Trump had knowledge of Epstein’s crimes, Bondi responded: “I’m not certain about the extent of his knowledge.” Democrats considered this response insufficient and criticized that the interview was not conducted under oath or recorded on video. “What happens in there is a farce,” said Democratic Representative Dave Min.

Dhillon defended her intervention arguing that she only sought to have lawmakers adhere to the “basic rules” established by the committee. Furthermore, she noted that delegating tasks to interim Attorney General Blanche was “very common” for a high-ranking leader with thousands of responsibilities.

What Impact Does the Disclosure of Epstein Files Have?

Approximately 2.5 million documents from investigative files related to Epstein have not been made public. Additionally, many of the 3.5 million pages released are heavily redacted. This has raised questions about what information is being hidden from the public and why.

Marina Lacerda, one of the survivors, stated before the interview: “We all hope that today Pam Bondi is as clear as possible and takes responsibility.” Liz Stein, another survivor, demanded answers about redaction errors that exposed private personal information of victims while protecting the names of perpetrators.

Representative James Comer, chairman of the House Oversight Committee, stated that the investigation would continue.
