Thousands of Colombians in the United States can now exercise their right to vote to elect the president and vice president of Colombia for the 2026-2030 term. Voting began on May 25 with early voting and concludes on Sunday, May 31. Polling centers are available in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.
The National Civil Registry confirmed that the electoral process includes the election of president and vice president. If no candidate exceeds 50% of valid votes, the runoff will be held between the top two vote-getters on June 21, according to the National Civil Registry.
The regulations allow adults with an ID card registered at the corresponding consulate to vote. The process registered 14 presidential candidates, including Iván Cepeda, Paloma Valencia, Claudia López, Abelardo de la Espriella and Clara López, according to the National Civil Registry.
Where and When to Vote in New York and Connecticut?
The Colombian Consulate at 10 East 46th Street, Manhattan, NY 10017 functions as an early voting center. It is open Monday, May 25 through Saturday, May 31 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Electoral authorities enabled 7 additional centers for Sunday, May 31 in New York.
Voters can go to Beacon High School, 522 W 44th St, Manhattan, NY 10036, or La Espiguita Soccer Academy, 1795 Brentwood Rd, Brentwood, NY 11717. Also available are PS 69 The Jackson Heights School, 77-02 37th Ave., Jackson Heights, NY 11372, and El Centro Hispano, 295 Central Avenue, White Plains, NY 10606.
For Connecticut, the only enabled center is Burroughs Community Center, 2470 Fairfield Ave., Bridgeport, CT 06605. Each location remains open during official hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., according to consulate spokesman Felipe Aguilera’s confirmation to Telemundo 47.
How to Vote in New Jersey?
For those residing in New Jersey, early voting takes place at the Colombian Consulate at 550 Broad Street, Newark. It is available May 25-31 during the same hours of 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. On Sunday, May 31, voters can go to different locations throughout the state.
Locations include the Colombian Consulate itself, 550 Broad Street, Newark, and Public School #27, 505/517 Morris Avenue, Elizabeth. Also available are Hudson Community College, 4800 John F. Kennedy Blvd, Union City, and Club Colombia Dover, 11 East Blackwell Street, Dover.
Other enabled locations are Great Falls Youth Center, 52 Front Street, Paterson; St Margaret Roman Catholic Church, 6 Sussex Ave, Morristown; Civic Center Hackensack, 65 Central Avenue, Hackensack; Stockton University, 3711 Atlantic Ave, Atlantic City; and Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1140 Greenwood Avenue, Trenton.
