The series Euphoria has come to an end and HBO has made it clear that there will be no season 4. The decision ended months of rumors and made the conclusion of the third installment the final chapter of one of the most talked-about youth productions in recent years.
The closure did not go unnoticed. For 7 years, the fictional series became a pop culture reference and solidified the international fame of figures like Zendaya, Sydney Sweeney, and Jacob Elordi. However, it also accumulated criticism for its treatment of violence, drugs, and explicit sex.
The cancellation, in reality, does not respond to a single cause. According to statements by creator Sam Levinson on the The New York Times podcast, the story had already reached its natural conclusion, because the central axis has always been addiction and its consequences.
Why Did HBO Decide to End Euphoria?
The most direct explanation came from the creative team itself. In his conversation with The New York Times, Levinson argued that, from a narrative standpoint, the story “feels like an ending.” That definition reveals that the decision was not presented as a hiatus, but as a definitive closure.
The third season reinforced that idea from its dramatic structure. Rather than opening new storylines, the series brought several characters to points of emotional and violent rupture. The ending, therefore, felt less like a transition and more like a planned farewell.
