Each player participating in the 2026 World Cup will receive approximately $5,000 per day of competition. The collective of clubs will share an additional $5 million according to the memorandum signed with European Football Clubs. FIFA announced this Friday the new economic figures that directly benefit players and sports entities.
Although final figures will be confirmed after the tournament ends, FIFA reminded of the $355 million agreed upon. This sum represents a 70% increase compared to 2022 and will be divided into two funds for players. The funds will primarily benefit players who compete in the knockout stages of the international tournament.
Clubs whose players compete in the final phase, from June 11 to July 19, will share another $250 million. FIFA specified that payments will be calculated per player and per day of official participation. This includes both inclusion in the squad roster and actual minutes played in matches.
How Much Will Clubs and Players Earn in the 2026 World Cup?
The minimum allocation will be $5,000 per player per day of official competition in the tournament. This figure represents a significant increase compared to compensation from the 2022 World Cup. Additional payments will depend on minutes played and the tournament phase in which they participate.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino highlighted that thousands of clubs worldwide contribute daily. These clubs train and develop players who dream of representing their countries in the World Cup. The 70% increase compared to 2022 reflects FIFA’s commitment to global football development.
According to FIFA, the total global figure that the program will allocate is $355 million total. This investment will be distributed after nearly 1,000 matches between the preliminary phase and final phase. The aid program will benefit clubs in Europe and other parts of the world with diversity.
Nasser Al-Khelaifi, president of the EFC and PSG, considered the club aid program to be essential. This strategic collaboration between EFC and FIFA will benefit hundreds of global sports entities. These entities include both major European clubs and small associations from other continents.
How Are Payments Calculated Per Player and Day?
FIFA specified that payments will be calculated considering inclusion in the official squad roster of the team. The actual minutes of play that each player accumulates during the tournament will also be taken into account. This methodology ensures that players receive compensation proportional to their active participation.
The minimum allocation of $5,000 per player per day applies even if the player does not participate. Players included in the roster receive the minimum payment regardless of their minutes on the field. Additional minutes of play can generate payments exceeding the minimum initially established.
The agreement highlights the collaboration between clubs and national teams.
