The International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) announced a new rule for the 2026 World Cup. Fans will not be allowed to enter stadiums with reusable water bottles. This surprising decision directly affects thousands of Latino fans. Many had planned to bring their own containers to stay hydrated.

The policy change occurs just weeks before the sporting tournament begins. The World Cup will be held between June 13 and July 19, 2026. North America will experience high temperatures and excessive humidity during these summer months. Therefore, constant hydration will be essential for all attendees.

Previously, the organization allowed certain plastic containers to enter the venues. However, the code of conduct was recently updated with more severe and strict restrictions. This measure will force attendees to completely modify their logistical and financial planning. Now, purchasing water inside the venue will be almost mandatory to combat thirst. Hispanic community leaders recommend getting well informed before traveling to the stadiums.

Why Did FIFA Change the Rules About Bottles?

Just 3 weeks ago, the official regulations allowed empty and transparent plastic bottles. The maximum capacity permitted was up to 1 liter per person. However, the new directive completely eliminated that initial concession for fans. According to sports outlet The Athletic, FIFA communicated this surprising change to ticket buyers recently.

The official objective of banning hard containers is to protect general physical integrity. Authorities seek to prevent the risk of causing injuries to players or spectators. Throwing objects onto the field is a recurring and dangerous problem at massive events. Therefore, security measures in U.S. stadiums will be extremely strict.

The ban means that fans will have two main options for drinking potable water. They must purchase bottled water at commercial establishments inside the huge sports venue. The other option will be to find the free hydration stations enabled by the organization. This generated strong criticism over the possible high cost of commercially sold water. Prices of food at massive events always impact family budgets.

How Will Extreme Heat Affect Fans?

The international tournament will span 104 matches in cities across the United States, Mexico, and Canada. Many of these venues will record extreme temperatures throughout the month of July. Intense heat represents a truly real risk to public health. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, rapid dehydration can cause severe heat stroke.
