U.S. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard submitted her formal resignation on Friday. The former Democratic congresswoman delivered her written resignation directly to President Donald Trump. The surprise executive meeting took place in the Oval Office of the White House in Washington.

The process began when U.S. broadcaster Fox News exclusively reported on the departure of the senior official. Gabbard argued that she is stepping down from leading the intelligence services due to her husband’s health issues. The now-former director’s spouse is battling cancer and requires priority medical care.

In recent hours, media outlets reported excerpts from the letter in which Gabbard establishes June 30, 2026 as her official departure date. The official expressed deep gratitude for the opportunity to lead National Intelligence during the past year. The Republican president is now evaluating possible candidates for her replacement.
