President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance signed a digital agreement with Iran to end the war in the Middle East. The pact immediately halts all military operations in the region, including the Lebanon front. Pakistan acted as a key mediator between Washington and Tehran in this process.

Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif announced on Sunday that the peace agreement is already complete. The in-person signing of the pact will take place in Geneva on June 19. According to Sharif, mediators will facilitate meetings this week to prepare official technical talks.

Trump confirmed the resumption of tanker transit through the Strait of Hormuz following the agreement. The president stated that the maritime corridor will be completely open on Friday. This strait is vital because it handles approximately 20% of global crude oil supply.

What does the digital agreement include?

The agreement was signed electronically by Trump, Vance, and Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf. A senior U.S. administration official informed AFP that Trump personally signed the document.

This signing demonstrates his commitment to resolving the Middle East conflict. News agency EFE reported that the full text of the agreement will be released within the next 24 or 48 hours. The pact includes unblocking the Strait of Hormuz and ending military operations on all fronts. This covers Israel, Lebanon, Gaza and areas of Iranian influence.

The United States and Iran have 60 days to reach common ground under the peace framework. According to Ignacio Rullansky, this timeline allows for establishing verification mechanisms and compliance. International mediators will oversee the process during these 60 critical days.

The agreement also contemplates the neutralization of enriched uranium under international supervision. French President Emmanuel Macron called for the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to oversee this process. The IAEA will be responsible for removing reserves or diluting material to prevent military use.

What does Pakistan say about the mediation process?

Pakistan served as a key mediator between the United States and Iran throughout the process. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed that Geneva will be the official venue for signing the agreement. His announcement was made via a message on the X platform last Sunday.
