Renowned Puerto Rican singer Arcángel officially addressed an intense international controversy. This conflict arose following his recent public statements about the colonization of the Americas by the Spanish. These comments, made surprisingly during his most recent concert in Madrid, caused deep outrage on social media.

The Boricua artist asserted that his main intention was never to disrespect with his controversial statements. “My intention was never to disrespect Latin America or our indigenous peoples,” the reggaeton artist initially declared in a statement. Arcángel affirmed that he deeply loves both Latin America and Spain. He considers both nations to be fundamental parts of our rich shared history and culture.

Facing a barrage of strong criticism, the singer decided to clarify his initial statements to the public. Arcángel openly acknowledged the terrible violence that existed against different indigenous peoples during the historic colonization era. He admitted that the native population was nearly extinct due to the brutal clashes that occurred during those dark years of conquest.

What Message Was the Reggaeton Artist Trying to Convey?

Despite initial criticism, the urban artist attempted to offer a much deeper reflection. “But recognizing that does not mean ignoring the pain and historical wounds that existed,” the singer emphasized. He firmly believes that people can perfectly understand both sides of the same historical coin that shaped the Americas.
