The emergence of a geyser in Michoacán caught attention on social media after the moment went viral when a powerful column of hot water shot out from the patio of a home in the municipality of Hidalgo. The phenomenon greatly surprised the residents of the house and surrounding areas. This is because it is not common to observe an active geyser in this region of Mexico.

A geyser is a natural phenomenon where hot water and steam are expelled from the subsoil to the surface due to pressure accumulated underground. Generally, geysers appear in areas with volcanic or geothermal activity. There is intense heat beneath the Earth’s crust, according to geology experts.

What makes a geyser special is that water can shoot several meters into the air accompanied by steam, mud, or minerals, creating an impressive spectacle. On the other hand, the case of the geyser in Michoacán went viral because it occurred unexpectedly within a private property. Additionally, it was recorded by residents of the area who shared the videos on social media.

How Is a Geyser Formed and What Activates It?

A geyser forms when groundwater is trapped in cavities beneath the Earth near hot zones in the planet’s interior. The process occurs as follows: first water seeps into the subsoil. Then, the heat from volcanic rocks heats it intensely and pressure begins to accumulate.
