Donald Trump announced the death of the top leader of the Train of Aragua. Héctor Rusthenford Guerrero Flores, popularly known as “Niño Guerrero”, died recently. His death occurred during a lethal U.S. military attack in Venezuelan territory.

This event represents a decisive strategic blow against this transnational criminal organization. The U.S. president confirmed the news Friday night via the internet. The official published a video of the explosive impact.

The kinetic attack completely destroyed a building identified as a cartel complex. The lethal military operation was coordinated closely with current Venezuelan authorities. Therefore, the Venezuelan government reaffirmed its commitment to fighting crime.

Who was Niño Guerrero and how did he operate?

Guerrero transformed a simple prison gang into a vast international criminal organization. The Train of Aragua originally was born inside the Venezuelan Tocorón prison. From there, the criminal group rapidly extended its violent operations throughout Latin America.

The criminal band controlled Tocorón prison for many consecutive years. The criminals even built a swimming pool and several restaurants inside. However, the Venezuelan government managed to recover the facilities in October 2023.

Guerrero escaped during that state intervention and remained a fugitive from justice. The cartel terrorized countries such as Bolivia, Colombia, Chile and also Peru. Recently, the gang managed to expand its criminal influence to the United States and Spain.

Additionally, the organization is strongly linked to transnational drug trafficking networks. According to data from the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the group specializes in human trafficking. Colombian former Vice President Óscar Naranjo described the group as highly destabilizing in the region.

In December, U.S. prosecutors accused Guerrero of directing terrorist acts. Prosecutor Jay Clayton described him as the mastermind of this lethal evolution. Therefore, the U.S. government offered $5,000,000 for his capture.

How was the military attack carried out in Venezuelan territory?

The U.S. military attack was extremely fast and highly destructive. General Francis Donovan, commander of U.S. Southern Command, confirmed the primary objective. The Train of Aragua criminal complex was completely destroyed under rubble.

The joint military operation included an international intelligence exchange. It also required specialized technical support from the current Venezuelan government. During the operation, intense armed clashes occurred with various members of the terrorist cartel.
